BOTOX® Injections in Your 20s: Rhode Island Plastic Surgeon Shares Benefits

Preventative BOTOX injections can slow the formation of fine lines between the brows.

Lori Polacek, MD discusses the reasons why more young patients are opting to receive BOTOX® Cosmetic to prevent signs of aging.

Cranston, Rhode Island — Since its FDA approval in 2002, BOTOX® Cosmetic has helped countless patients diminish moderate to severe lines between their eyebrows, called frown lines. While the cosmetic injectable has traditionally been used for those with noticeable lines, Dr. Lori Polacek, a board-certified plastic surgeon in the Providence area, reveals the solution has gained popularity among younger adults. In fact, Dr. Polacek says it is not uncommon for patients in their 20s and 30s to receive what is referred to as “preventative BOTOX® injections.”

Preventative BOTOX® injections are intended for men and women who are beginning to see fine lines forming, explains Dr. Polacek. By administering the solution into the area of concern before lines deepen, she notes that the muscles are being trained to relax and not fully contract. This helps to prevent, or at least slow, the development of deeper or more noticeable facial lines.

While the ideal time for BOTOX® injections will vary according to each individual, 18 is the minimum age for which the treatment is approved. Dr. Polacek says results typically last about three to five months, but over time with regular preventative BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments, she has found patients require fewer treatments, due to the muscles maintaining a weakened state.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a beneficial treatment option for many individuals wanting to diminish or prevent signs of aging. However, Dr. Polacek advises men and women to seek a qualified provider to ensure they receive a safe procedure and the most natural-looking results.
