At the Polacek Center for Plastic Surgery in Providence, RI, we want your first dermal filler experience to feel comfortable and empowering. We use JUVÉDERM® products, a trusted line of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers known for their natural-looking results and safety features, to help you achieve your aesthetic goals with confidence.
Below, our experienced injectors have compiled advice to help you prepare for your consultation:
1. Understand Your Goals
Before your appointment, think about the areas you’d like to enhance or refine. Common treatment areas include the lips, cheeks, and smile lines. Bringing photos or examples of your desired look can help guide the consultation.
2. Avoid Blood Thinners
To minimize the risk of bruising, it is recommended that patients avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood-thinning medications and supplements (like fish oil or vitamin E) for at least 5-7 days before your appointment. However, it is vital to always consult your doctor before stopping prescribed medications.
3. Stay Hydrated
Hyaluronic acid fillers like JUVÉDERM® work best in hydrated skin, and being well-hydrated can also help reduce swelling. We encourage patients to drink plenty of water in the days leading up to treatment. I
4. Skip Certain Skin Treatments
We advise patients to avoid using any harsh exfoliants or topical treatments for around a week before treatment to reduce skin inflammation and sensitivity. We also recommend refraining from other aesthetic services such as chemical peels, facials, and laser treatments for 1-2 weeks before and after your filler appointment.
5. Ask Questions
Our experienced team is here to answer any questions about the different JUVÉDERM® products, the injection process, or aftercare. It may be helpful to write down a list of questions or concerns ahead of your appointment.
